Through a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) funded program via Aus4Skills, AIS Global has developed a pilot industry-led skills and workforce development framework in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam. The key objectives of this pilot are to establish a model that informs relevant sectors of the government as well as education and training institutes about the current and future skills and workforce needs of the logistics industry. This has included advising on the development of an industry intelligence model to support decision making and on the required industry leadership, governance and advocacy structures.

The logistics sector has been selected as the pilot industry in this program because it is important not only to Vietnam’s economic development but for Australia’s trade with Vietnam.

AIS Global has engaged in country with industry, college and government stakeholders on the development of this model, and hosted delegations from Vietnam to provide exposure to Australia’s VET system.

A major component of this activity has involved building enduring capability in how to develop and validate Occupational Standards (OS) and the underpinning Occupational Skills Standards (OSS). OS and OSS are important because they are the standards against which training delivery and assessment of competency can take place.

AISG has also supported the establishment of the Logistics Industry Reference Council (LIRC) in HCMC and is providing ongoing technical assistance to its secretariat, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). We are developing a 5 year Roadmap for the LIRC as it looks to expand over the coming years.
