Australian Study Tour

In February 2019 AIS Global hosted a high-level Vietnamese delegation in Canberra and Sydney. This was a component of an Aus4Skills program assisting Vietnam in establishing an industry-led mechanism for engaging logistics industry employers and the VET sector in skills development. The delegates participated in a short study program targeting the transport and logistics sectors. The program included visits to Toll Logistics and TAFE NSW campuses in Sydney and a visit to the Transport Industries Skills Centre in Canberra. Delegates also heard presentations by  Australian Department of Education officials, My Freight Career and the Chair of the Transport and Logistics Industry Reference Committee (IRC).

This study tour was designed to give the visiting delegation an overview of industry-led VET in Australia. The delegation, consisting of 16 participants from the Vietnamese Government, industry and training colleges, gained an understanding of:

  • Best practice in governance and policy for skills development.
  • Examples of best practice in industry operations and the development of practical assessment.
  • Value to industry/government/community of developing high-quality industry-led training.
  • The responsible role of colleges in providing contemporary training to the industry and community.

The program was well received by the 16 participants who were grateful for the experiences and insights they gained over the duration of the program. Ms Bui Thi Ninh from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) commented that “I believe that based on the lessons learned and great support from (AIS Global), we can start with simple and feasible activities in the short term and prepare well for our long-term plan”.
